múi giờ trong Pontianak là : GMT+07:00
The capital of West Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo, Pontianak is one of Indonesia\'s more unique cities, as it is located directly on the equator. To celebrate its particular latitude position, the city erected the Equator Monument in Siantan. With the three main cultures of Dayak, Melayu and Chinese in harmony, the people of Pontianak have developed a unique culture of their own. One of the many attractions to Pontianak are the various cultural festivals held almost every month.
The once sleepy river port on sungai Siak, has transformed into one of Indonesia’s oil capitals, with all the hustle and bustle of a modern city. Long before today\'s affordable air travel, it served as a transit point for tourists between ferries from Singapore. Following the Americans striking oil back in the 1930\'s, Pekanbaru\'s economy was heavily dependent on oil revenues and now its not uncommon to have a conversation with a Western oil executive, on a business trip when visiting.
