Kunming is often referred to as the “City of Eternal Spring” in China for its pleasant climate and flowers blooming all year long. Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province, Southwest China. It is located in the middle of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Formerly known as Yunnan-fou and renamed Kunming in 1920s. During the World War II, Kunming was important as a Chinese military center. Nowadays, Kunming is a city with modern commercial district, residential, and university areas. The city also has an astronomical observatory.
