Samanvaya, a small and intimate boutique resort, nestles perfectly
on the sweeping rice terraces of the Sidemen Valley on the tropical
island of Bali. The word Samanvaya comes from the ancient Hindu
language of Sanskrit and translated, means
‘Harmony’, a perfect
interpretation of the resorts stunning location and ethos. Only one
and a half hours from the international airport and half an hour
from the coast, yet Sidemen represents the true Bali that most
people still dream about, the Bali of years gone by. Here, a strong
cultural identity and religious beliefs are retained and are
reflected throughout the traditional Balinese communities of the
Sidemen Valley.
Rooms
The seven guest lodges at Samanvaya; Jepun, Lotus, Champak and
Kenyeri have been built by local craftsmen using reclaimed timbers
and the very best sustainable hardwoods from the forests of East
Kalimantan, and together with the traditional Alang Alang straw
roofs, they blend effortlessly with the surrounding gardens and
environment. With their high vaulted ceilings and unique design of
folding doors to the whole terrace, the lodges themselves become
seamless to the outside and you cannot help but imagine yourself in
the rice terraces itself. The ambiance of the Balinese bathrooms,
complete with rainwater showers and tropical gardens, compliments
the lodges perfectly. For the comfort and enjoyment of guests, all
lodges offer a fully stocked mini bar, safe, premium quality
mattresses, complimentary toiletries and big fluffy towels. Every
lodge has the luxury of its own spacious private terrace; a great
place to witness the sun rising above the hills as the valley
slowly stirs to life; and as the sun sets and darkness falls,
amidst the serenity of Samanvaya, the distant lights of the
coastline glisten as they meet with the stars in the clear night
sky.
Lumbungs are traditional rice barns originally used for the storage
of harvested rice. Our stunning lumbungs have an added touch of
luxury and as with our lodges, are built on the original rice
terraces of Sidemen. Here, there are no formal gardens, just rice
and vegetables and when harvested, used by Chef in the kitchen of
our restaurant. The Padis are of a high quality construction of
bamboo and alang alang and are perfectly entwined with the rice
crops and simply enhance ones senses of the environment. They have
been designed for comfort and style and to reflect the natural
beauty of their location.
All lodges and lumbungs are strictly non smoking (including the
terraces), however, you are welcome to smoke in the public areas of
Rice and Samanvaya.
