Coober Pedy

On first impression, Coober Pedy just looks like a small dusty town, in the middle of Australia brutal outback. But what\'s seen on the surface is more than meets the eye, as more than half of the city\'s population actually resides under the earth\'s surface, in order to avoid the extreme local climate. Residents who live underground, dwell in old opal mines that have been reworked into comfortable dugouts leaving no impressions of living in a dark cave. Coober Pedy is still known as the largest producer of opals in Australia and possibly the world.
